Skyloppet presented by Dee-O-Gee
Skyloppet is Crosscut’s new signature Nordic ski event—a celebration of winter endurance, breathtaking trails, and Montana’s expansive skies. Set against the backdrop of the Bridger Mountains, this two-day event features skate and classic races for skiers of all ages and abilities. With world-class grooming, panoramic views, and a welcoming Nordic culture, Skyloppet is designed to offer something for everyone.
More than just a race, Skyloppet is a community-forward gathering that highlights the best of Bozeman’s winter experience. It brings together athletes, families, volunteers, and partners to support Crosscut’s year-round programs and celebrate Montana’s vibrant ski community.
Skyloppet builds on the momentum and spirit of the Crosscut Classic, continuing a legacy of high-quality ski events in Bozeman. The beloved Classic lives on as a part of the Skyloppet weekend—reimagined alongside a more expansive experience. This evolution honors our roots while enriching the tradition to include a marquee marathon-distance skate race and more.
Skyloppet Event Format
Update 2/10/26: After continued monitoring of snow and weather conditions, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the timed races scheduled for this weekend. While this new snow has been helpful, the significant rain on Sunday evening and the ongoing warm temperatures have made it so that we will not be able to deliver a course for the timed events this weekend. We do not take this decision lightly, but we know it is the decision that needs to be made.
We would like to welcome all event participants out to Crosscut this Saturday to celebrate the spirit of the Skyloppet and Ski for Soren events. Instead of a race format, we’re hosting an informal group fun ski for all participants—a relaxed, community-focused opportunity to get out on the snow, ski together, and celebrate the sport that we all love.
We will meet at the warming shelter at 11:00 am for an informal Fun Ski, with Co-op soup, MAP beer for 21+, a bonfire, and gear giveaway to follow. All participants will still receive a custom-designed merino wool neck gaiter. We’re looking forward to hosting a fun day on the trails with friends, fellow skiers, and the broader Crosscut community despite the challenging winter that we have had.

Inclement Weather Policy
At any air temperature, any difficult weather conditions, including but not limited to strong winds, high air humidity, heavy snow, lack of snow, and/or icy track conditions, will result in the Crosscut and Race Committee considering the postponement or cancellation the event.
Inclement Winter Weather Considerations
In determining event modifications or cancellations during cold weather, the following variables must be considered
Air temperature (recorded from the CMSC weather station), including:
Time of lowest temperature
Temperature trend throughout the day
Wind & windchill (forecasted from Sacajawea SNOTEL station)
Wind speed and wind gusts (predicted and CMSC live data)
Snowfall, both current accumulation and predicted
Trail conditions
Age of participants
Bridger Bowl Ski Area’s operating plan
Decision Making
The decision to cancel or postpone a competition is typically made by the organizing committee in consultation with Crosscut staff and medical staff. This decision considers current and forecasted weather conditions.
Crosscut reserves the right to make a final determination on cancelation.
Temperature Thresholds for Modification and Cancellation
If anywhere on the course is below -20°C (-4°F), an event may be postponed or cancelled. In some cases, competitions may be canceled if temperatures are between -15°C and -20°C (5°F to -4°F), especially when combined with wind chill factors.
At temperatures of -15°C to -20°C (5°F to -4°F) without wind-chill, an event may be run in a modified format at the discretion of the Race Committee in consultation with Crosscut. Modifications may include a shortened course, a modified start time, changes to the minimum age of racers, or other strategies for minimizing risk to racers, staff, and volunteers. Crosscut and the Race Committee will consider the temperature trends, wind chill factors, and course conditions expected during the event before making their decision.
When course temperatures are below -12°C (10°F), a minimum racing age of 14 may be imposed by Crosscut. Other factors (such as temperature trends and wind chill factors) are considered when making this determination.
Wind Chill Factor
The wind chill factor is critically assessed. Even if temperatures are above the critical threshold, high wind speeds can lead to dangerous wind chill levels, necessitating cancellation or postponement.
Refunds
At the discretion of Crosscut, we may offer refunds to registrants who become injured, or are unable to make it to the event for unforseen reasons prior to the start of the event. We are unable to offer refunds for any reason within 14 days of the start of the event. In the event that we cannot offer a refund, we may offer a voucher for a free race entry to a Crosscut event to be used within 1 year.
Cancellation
If Crosscut or the event organizing committee determines that an event cannot be held as scheduled, our first priority will be to select a makeup date later in the season. If no suitable date is available, or conditions prevent rescheduling, the event may be cancelled for the season.
If an event is canceled or postponed for any reason, all registrations will automatically transfer to the designated makeup date. If the event is ultimately cancelled and not rescheduled within the same season, all registered participants will receive a discounted entry to a Crosscut event to be used within 1 year. Refunds will not be provided in the event of a cancellation.
